The Sandwich of Legend – I give you the ServInt Special

Last week, Windows 7 made it’s long awaited debut on the tech world at large. Along with it came an enormous marketing machine that went from a few entertaining commercials all the way to this monstrosity.

This, my friends, is the Windows 7 Whopper.

Yup. I assume Kobayashi is doing some consulting work for Microsoft in Japan.

Regardless, this got me thinking about one of ServInt’s longest running and quietest cultural quirks. Our very own sandwich…

The ServInt Special

Continental Deli - The Birthplace of the ServInt Special

The ServInt Special is the handiwork of Kim, owner of the Continental Deli a block away from ServInt’s mothership in Northern VA. Sometime in 2004, ServInt CEO Reed Caldwell designed the sandwich himself, dutifully dictating which types of lunch meat, cheeses, sauce, veggies, and condiments should adorn a sandwich with the name of ServInt behind it.

The ingredients are as follows:

Onions – Red
Hot peppers
Pastrami
Jalapenos
Corned beef
Provolone
Cheddar
Bacon
Russian dressing
Cole slaw
And a pickle

…all on a sub roll.

This is what you’ll get.

A closed, but fully loaded, ServInt Special.

Yeah, we don’t mess around here.

Now, mind you, one can - if necessary – change certain traits of the sandwich without removing its distinct ServInt-ness. I prefer mine without Bacon, Onions, or Cole Slaw. Christian and Reed go all in, Bacon and all. The only areas that are completely off limits are the Pastrami, Corned Beef, Cheddar, and Provolone. Uh uh, not gonna cut it.

Here’s my Special. Trust me when I say it is so much better than it actually looks.

We’ve been faithfully ordering the ServInt Special for at least 5 years now, how do you like them apples, Microsoft? ;-)
